Located just a few hundred meters from the Wheldale Hotel accross the River Are and Are Calder Navigation Canal. there are a number of ways to access Fairburn Ings, but we always recommend you go to the RSBP Fairburn Ings visitor centre so you have a base to start and get trail information to maximise your experience.
People travel from allover the country to see the special visitors throughout the different seasons. Many rare birds visit Fairburn and the walks are a joy too, bringing the industrial north back to nature.
Fairburn Ings was created by the overmining of this area, by local coal mines of Wheldale and Fryston Colleries. As years passed the ground sunk and created the Ings, from then nature took over, witness nature putting mans wrong, right.

Castleford Tigers Rugby League Club
Rugby League has been a big part of "Cas" folks life. Castleford Tigers have been a big part of our very proud town.
A game born our of a dispute between Rugby Union and the northern clubs resulted in a meeting between founder members to form the now known Rugby League. Not long after Castleford RLFC was born.
A small family club with a big heart, fans are proud we can compete against the big city clubs at the highest level.
Around 16 games per year are played at the Jungle, located accross the road from the Hotel. We can also secure you tickets for this exciting game and the locals are always willing to share there knowledge of the rules.
